Monday Musings: We Will Survive

Well y'all, summer is in FULL SWING. I went outside this weekend and I literally felt like I had stepped into a giant sauna. Anyone else??? All you can do to survive is keep that ponytail high, throw on your cutest Mexican shirt with cutoffs, hydrate, and live by the pool.  In DC all I ever wanted from an apartment was a balcony and a pool. In Houston, I've got both! I get to sit out and have my morning coffee or my evening glass of wine during the sunset, and during the day I can chill work by the pool. I've been loving my lunch time workout session which includes, at a minimum, a 15-minute swim session. It's the perfect respite to this hot, hot summer. That plus some cold-brew coffee and I'm ready to take on the rest of the day.

This week's Monday Musing is all about tips and tricks to survive the rest of the summer. What are some of the ways you're battling this summer's heat? Show me what you're doing - send me a snap, message me on insta or facebooktweet it at me, or leave a comment below!

Monday Musings

1. Lemon Hibiscus Italian Ice

This recipe is totally happening this week! I can't wait to try it. I've been seeing it everywhere and it looks so good. Real Simple is making all of our homemade Italian ice dreams come true with this Lemon-Hibiscus Italian Ice Recipe. Of course, in true Real Simple fashion, it couldn't be simpler than needing"...a freezer and a food processor to make these 3-ingredient frozen treats."

How cute are those little cups☝??! They just scream summer pool party to me. I'm thinking I might need to make a batch of these and invite some of my besties over to play by the pool, what about you? It'll totally give me an excuse to buy that giant floaty I've been eyeing...

2. Throwing Shade

There are two things in life that I've always loved as far as accessories go, watches and sunglasses. Nothing screams summer to me like a pair of fun sunglasses. Sunglasses are really having a moment right now if you ask me. That classic, retro style is back in a big way, and I'm a big fan. I've even started wearing contacts again just so I can wear some fun sunglasses. Also, thank you Amazon and Target for making it possible to have an endless supply of cheap-o sunglasses to keep in my car, my boyfriend's car, at my boyfriend's house, at my house, at my parent's house, in my travel bag, and in my pool bag. Don't get me wrong. I love a pair of great designer glasses, but sometimes it's nice to just have a pair to throw in a bag just-in-case.

3. Chilling by the Pool Playlist

This playlist is a mix of old and new summer-time favs. What are you favorite summer tunes?

4. My Long Hair Don't Care Summer Up-Do

Before moving to Houston I NEVER wore my hair up. Sure, I was known to rock a side-braid or half-bun, but I'd never go full on up-do. Well, that's over. It's WAY too hot and humid to try to keep these locks in control. Does anyone else ever fall into the endless YouTube tutorial tunnel? Well, I found this one recently, and I love her pony-tail updates. I've been all about the topsy pony lately.

5. Gotta Cover Up

Last but not least, the coverup. I literally saw a girl in a towel wrap at the grocery store the other day. Seriously? It's 2017, there's about a million cover up options that don't include your bathroom attire. In an effort to start sewing again, I thought I'd look for some quick and easy DIY cover ups.

Elle Apparel is sharing a pom-pom kaftan and is going the square route. I love how this could be made longer or shorter, depending on height! I'm also loving this pom-pom cover up from Merrick's Art. It's so cute and looks so easy! This brit+co kimono is EVERYTHING! I want to make one just to wear in my everyday life.

I know, I know. Ain't nobody got time for that! So I've also found some super cute cover ups to buy that will get you pool-side ready, and keep me from judging you while in line at the grocery store.
