Juice, Juice, Baby!

Hey! It’s me… Basic Betty! If you are new to Capital Confessions and you don’t know me, just know — I’m as basic as they come (minus the PSL, I can’t get behind that one… sorry). I love a good trend, Taylor Swift is always on my playlists, I try to live a minimal life, but I love all the accessories, and I’ll jump on the hype of life without a lot of convincing. Recently, I did the most basic thing a girl could do – I did a juice fast/cleanse. I had a lot of people message me and ask me how it went/would I do it again, etc. so I thought why not share it all, here.

So first things first, juice fasts/cleanses have been around a while now, but until recently they’ve all seemed WAY over priced and extreme for this girl. I’ve know a couple of people who have dived in head first to a 3 day cleanse, and loved it, but I’m here to tell you - I’m not that person. I have been looking for a more approachable way to do a juice fast, and I think I found an almost perfect solution - enter BluePrint. BluePrint is sold at Whole Foods which is perfect for my PrimeNow lifestyle.

WHY?!

First let’s talk a little bit about my “why” and “how”. . I just wanted to do a little “reset” and knowing my personality, a juice cleanse would be a great way to do it. So, I did a little research, and decided the BluePrint plan sounded perfect. I knew I didn’t want to do a 3-day cleanse, there was a lot of stuff going on in my life, and 3 days without solid food just seemed ridiculous. I opted for a 1 day fast – it might sound wimpy, but hear me out. Any time you’re thinking about doing a cleanse, you need to remember that the day before and the day after count as part of the journey. You’re always supposed to “prep” your body for a cleanse, and ease your body back into normalcy once it ends. So a 1 day cleanse really turns into a 3 day event.

So, why even put my self through this? When I decided to do this I had a couple of weeks of travel and just “off” eating. I was feeling a little bloated, I was having issues with my gallbladder, I was groggy, and basically all the signs of bad decision eating. I decided to go for it one week when I knew Tyler was going to be out of town, mainly because there’s no way he’d do it with me, and secondly because I didn’t know how grumpy it would make me… I’m a hangry sort of person, so juice for a whole day - who knew what that would do!

How it works.

For super detailed instructions/for a longer cleanse check out BluePrint’s website.

Before the cleanse you’ll want to prep your body for a day of just juice. Decrease your coffee, red meats, carbs, dairy, and alcohol intake and increase your greens and veggies intake. To do this, I skipped my coffee drinks, had a big salad for lunch, and made some baked fish and veggies for dinner. Also hydrating before, during, and after is hugely important!

On the day of, you’ll want to make sure and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Start the day with a big glass or two of water, then drink your first drink of the day, Kale it Up. There are 6 juices for the whole day, so make sure and pace yourself. Drink the juices in this order: 1. Kale it Up, 2. Pineapple Power (so good), 3. Kale it Up, 4. Lemon Reset, 5. Beet Blast, 6. Lemon Reset to end. During the cleanse, take it easy - your calorie intake is down, so don’t feel pressured to work out, plus skipping a day is NBD. If you’re feeling hungry, try some water or some simple breathing exercises.

After the cleanse don’t head straight for a big meal. Start with some herbal tea, high water content fruits and veggies, and some vegetarian style meals.

For the 1 day cleanse you’ll need the following:

  1. Kale it Up (2)

  2. Pineapple Power (1)

  3. Lemon Reset (2)

  4. Beet Blast (1)

There’s another version that replaces 1 Lemon Reset with Nut & Bolt – Whole Foods didn’t carry Nut & Bolt, so I just went with the nut free version of the cleanse.

The Results

Even just doing the cleanse one day I was able to see results. I felt more energized, virtually no bloat, hydrated, and totally refreshed. Will I do it again? Totally. Can I do more days? After doing it for one day, I could see maybe stretching it to 2 days, but 3 seems a little crazy. I wouldn’t ever use this as a quick fix diet, but I would suggest this for anyone who feels like they just want a “reset”. It’d be a great way to take a “pause” after Thanksgiving before Christmas.

What do yo think? Have you tried a cleanse? Would you be willing to try one? Let me know in the comments below!
